Matilda Hotel - a friendly family oasis in Zakynthos

We chose Matilda Hotel also because we knew that it would have the Italian, agroturismo character combined with the services of a 4-star hotel, in a quiet, exceptionally beautiful setting, away from the crowds, yet close to the best and most special beaches of the island, such as Port Zorro or Daphni Beach.

We contacted several hotels and apartments, but as we indicated in our previous post, it was rather one-sided, i.e. we wrote (email) and they did not reply. Out of this field, Matilda Hotel stood out by responding immediately, offering a competitive quote and offering all the help needed to get to and stay in the area.

Practically all of the rooms at the Matilda overlook olive groves and the sea, with balconies where you can comfortably enjoy the sea murmur and the silence.

We also chose Matilda because it was in a great location, just 200 metres from one of the beaches (Vourderi) that is not yet used by tourists, but it also has beautiful private pools and lush gardens. The hotel is located in the area of the national park for the protection of turtles (Caretta-Caretta).

Any of Matilda's 50 rooms are suitable for even longer stays, for solo travellers and couples, as their size means you won't feel cramped. The bathrooms are practical, the air conditioning works great and there's sufficient internet. There is also a TV in the apartments with some international channels and of course countless local options, but we preferred the beach to watching TV.

For those who also like to go on excursions, it is also a good base, there is free parking in front of the hotel if you rent a car, for which we chose MotorClub for their flexibility and reliability.

The Matilda offers a generous buffet breakfast, which you can currently enjoy with the help of the friendly staff, the restaurant has great views of the pools, the beautifully manicured gardens and the sea, as does the terrace bar. If you don't feel like visiting the bars and restaurants on the surrounding beaches, you won't be disappointed either, as you can choose from a reasonably priced menu or take advantage of the buffet-style half-board, which has been designed with health-consciousness in mind. In addition to Greek cuisine, the buffet offers a full range of Mediterranean dishes.

During our stay, we felt the hospitality and kindness of the hotel owners and managers, but the same can be said of all the staff. We received many useful tips at reception that made our days after Matilda a real experience.
