Without whom we would have nothing to celebrate – today is World Chefs' Day (October 20th)

HOTEL.BLOG | LAYED TABLE | OCTOBER 20, 2026.
Behind a well-prepared meal lies knowledge, discipline, creativity, and a lot of invisible work. On October 20th, we celebrate those who transform ingredients into flavors, meals into experiences, and cooking into a profession every day.
Most of the time, the guest sees the finished plate. They don't see the early morning preparations, the careful selection of ingredients, the hours spent in the hot kitchen, the concentration during service, and the hundreds of small decisions made, often in seconds, that ultimately determine what ends up on their table. Yet, a good meal is never born by chance.
October 20, World Chefs' Day, has been an international celebration of the culinary profession since 2004. The initiative is associated with Dr. Bill Gallagher, who wanted the culinary profession to not only celebrate its own achievements, but also pass on its knowledge and values to future generations.
This year's international campaign, Food Explorers, draws attention to this very issue. The initiative by Worldchefs and Nestlé Professional encourages chefs to introduce young people to the origins of ingredients, the importance of healthy eating and the foundations of sustainable gastronomy.
The kitchen is more than a workplace
The work of professionals working in the kitchens of hotels, restaurants, ships, bistros, schools and catering establishments is about much more than following recipes precisely. A good chef is a craftsman, a creator, an organizer and a team player at the same time. He knows the ingredients, respects traditions, pays attention to economy and is able to maintain his commitment to quality even under the greatest workload.
And the future of gastronomy is not only shaped by famous chefs and Michelin-starred restaurants. The chef who preserves local flavors in a small rural restaurant, who cooks for hundreds of people every day, or who shows a young student how to treat an ingredient with respect for the first time, has an equally important role.
On World Chefs' Day, the editorial team of szalloda.blog greets all representatives of the profession with love and appreciation. Chefs, sous-chefs, cooks, pastry chefs, kitchen assistants, students and all those without whose work the experiences that make guests return again and again would not be possible.
Thank you for your creativity, perseverance, professional humility - and the enormous amount of work, from which the guest often only perceives a single, memorable bite.
We wish you a happy World Chefs Day!
